In this article, I’ll go over seven productivity tips to work from home easily and efficiently.
Earning money from home requires a lot of work. So, if you’re not feeling productive at home, that may be why making money online seems tiring to you.
For example, you will need to spend a lot of time and energy in order to start a moneymaking blog. You will also need to work at your YouTube before you can make money with it. And you will have to do work for other people if you’re trying to make money as a freelancer.
No matter what you do in life, it’s important to be productive in order to accomplish your tasks and reach your goals.
Productivity is key to working from home. That’s why this article will give you seven tips on how you can stay productive and work at home effectively. That way, you’ll find making money online less mundane and well worth your time.
So let’s get started with these seven tips.
1. Get energized.
If you feel tired and don’t feel like doing anything at all, the first step to becoming productive is by getting energy. When you get up in the morning, the first thing you should do is your morning routine.
Then sip on your favorite coffee or go on a jog around your neighborhood. Do whatever you enjoy doing that will get you to be physically and mentally active.
By energizing yourself, you wake up your body and your mind at the same time. That way, you feel more willing to accomplish your goals, including doing all the work that it will take in order for you to make money from home, whether you’re going to do your online job, or start an Internet business.
2. Sit in an office area.
Inside your home, the room that you decide to work online is pretty important because there will be some places in your house that might be noisy or distracting. You may choose to work with your laptop in the dining room next to your humming fridge where you might think of having a snack or work in the living room where your blank TV screen invites you to watch Netflix.
This is why I recommend you choose an “office area” inside your house where you can shut your door behind you, have a proper desk where you can focus on your work, and even have encouraging messages on the wall. By working in your “office area”, you will be more motivated to focus on your work and less likely to get carried away by the distractions around you.
And, if that means moving your PC or Mac to your bedroom from the living room, do it anyway. The key is to avoid distractions around you as much as possible.
Also, don’t forget to let others in your family know you don’t want to be disturbed. You might consider putting a Do Not Disturb sign in front of your door.
3. Don’t multitask.
Multitasking is something many people like you do. You have a lot of things you need to do or want to do and you try to do them all at once. The problem is, when you multitask, it’s easy to lose focus. You might be able to browse on the Internet and watch TV at the same time, but honestly, your brain can only focus on one thing at a time: either the TV or your Internet research.
Working online from home requires a lot of focus. Chances are you are new to earning money online and you’re trying to learn the steps in order to do it. The thing is you won’t be able to get the steps clearly because your mind is bouncing between too many things at once.
But, when you set your mind to something you really want, like making money from home, it becomes easier and quicker to complete your online work. If you have other things to do, get those things done before taking the time to work.
And, if you have multiple tabs open on your browser, that’s multitasking on the Internet. Save your tabs for later and focus on the tab that will help you succeed.
4. Turn off notifications.
In this day and age where everything from our relationships to paying our bills to following YouTubers, notifications can take over our computer work every single day. Notifications are like bait because it’s very easy for us to abandon our online work just to listen to that notification and waste time.
This is why a great way to keep focusing on your online work is by turning off your notifications any time you are working. Don’t forget to also turn off notifications for your nearby smartphone. Once you finish your work for the day, you can re-enable notifications and respond to the notifications you received while you were working.
5. Take regular breaks.
Working is great, but if you overwork yourself, you will easily get drained. Even if you enjoy the thought of getting work done constantly, you’re going to need breaks in order to stay productive and successful.
For example, you’re going to need to take computer breaks. A good rule to follow is the “20” rule. It goes like this: every 20 minutes that passes, look 20 yards (or 20 meters) away from the screen for 20 seconds. This could be a faraway tree from your bedroom window or the end of your long hallway. After the 20 seconds is up, your eyes are rested and you’re good to go for another 20 minutes.
You should also give your mind a break as well. After an hour’s worth of work, feel free to engage in your favorite hobby or play your favorite games for a while. Then, once you feel re-energized, get back to work and stay productive.
6. Keep your goals easy.
Often, when people set goals for themselves, they make them really challenging, hoping that that will force them to get it done. The truth is: if we see a goal as difficult, our minds tend to drift away from it and we would rather do something fun or easy instead. So, instead of making your goals overwhelming, keep them easy and simple to do.
Instead of making your goal to record 30 YouTube videos in a single month, change it to something like 2 YouTube videos a week. Rather than create 10 handcrafted items in a week, make your goal to craft 10 stuff in a month before you start selling your handiwork on sites like Etsy.
By breaking down your goals into smaller chunks, you feel less stress and more motivation to get the work done. It may take longer to achieve your goals, but remember the phrase: “Slow and steady wins the race.”
7. Budget your time.
You may be familiar with the phrase “time is money”. Time is such a valuable asset in our lives and, if we don’t take advantage of it, we can’t get it back! This is why I think the most important thing you can do to keep yourself productive is by practicing better time management.
Here are two ways you can start budgeting your time:
- Create a schedule that you can follow during each of your workdays. Pick the hours that you’re going to devote to working from home.
- Write down a checklist where you make it your goal to work from home for a certain number of hours. While you’re at work, use a timer to track your time. When it beeps, your work is done for the day!
By setting aside some of your time to just working from home, you will find it easier and quicker to start earning some extra dollars online.
